Our Story

MiND-AID started in 2020 in the middle of a global pandemic. Why? Because even before things got that intense, it was already way too hard for young people in Muskoka to get the mental health support they needed.

Too often, the only way to access care was through a hospital emergency room, after things had already hit a crisis point. And for some, the help just never came.

We saw the gaps and created a free local service to help young people navigate the complicated mental health system. Think of us like your friendly neighbourhood travel agent, but for your mental health journey. We help young people figure out what supports are out there, how to access them, and what fits them best. Everyone’s struggles are different, so we don’t try to fit young people into the system. We adjust the system around them.

Thanks to funding from Government of Canada's Emergency Community Support Fund, through the Muskoka Community Foundation and the United Way Simcoe Muskoka, and because of the support of Muskoka Victim Services, we helped 238 young people find mental health supports and resources.

As we kept doing this work, we learned our communities needed more knowledge about mental health. So, we started psychoeducation programs to offer mental health and suicide prevention training for both young people and the adults who support them. We also realized that many youth would go to therapy if cost wasn’t a barrier. With limited publicly funded services, we expanded to offer funding to make therapy more accessible for young people in Muskoka.

Now, we're doing all we can to reach young people who haven't been able to benefit from all the things we're doing — yet. Our On the Road to Youth Wellness Mobile Hub is all about reaching youth where they are by bringing resources, care, and connection.
